How the new regime works

The new regime is the default. It has lower slab rates, a ₹75,000 standard deduction for salaried people and a rebate that makes income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free, but it allows very few deductions.

When the old regime wins

The old regime can work out better if you claim large deductions such as HRA, home loan interest, 80C and 80D. Enter your deductions to see which regime gives the lower tax for your salary.

Switching between regimes

Salaried people can choose a regime each year when filing the return. People with business income can switch back to the old regime only once, and must file the option form before the due date.
