Turnover limits

Businesses supplying only goods must register once aggregate turnover in a financial year crosses ₹40 lakh. The limit is ₹20 lakh for services, or for goods in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Puducherry, Sikkim, Telangana and Uttarakhand. In Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, it is ₹10 lakh.

What counts as aggregate turnover

It includes all taxable, exempt and export supplies, and inter-state transfers, of every business under the same PAN across India. It excludes GST itself and supplies on which you pay tax under reverse charge.

When registration is compulsory

You must register at any turnover if you make inter-state sales of goods, sell goods through an e-commerce platform (with limited relief for small sellers), act as a casual or non-resident taxable person, pay tax under reverse charge, or supply as an agent.

Voluntary registration

Registering below the limit lets you claim input tax credit and sell to GST-registered businesses that want credit. Once registered, you must file returns even in months with no sales.
