What changed in April 2026

From 1 April 2026, the Income-tax Rules, 2026 replace Form 12BB with Form 124. It asks for the same claims, plus your relationship with the landlord for HRA. Use Form 12BB only for FY 2025-26.

What goes in the form

House rent with landlord details, leave travel, home loan interest with lender details, and deductions such as 80C, 80D and NPS. Your employer uses it to work out the TDS on your salary.

Old or new tax regime

Most of these claims count only under the old tax regime. Under the new regime, you usually only need to declare your employer’s NPS contribution. Compare both regimes with our calculator before you submit.

Proofs to keep

Keep rent receipts and the agreement, travel tickets, the lender’s interest certificate and investment proofs. Submit them by the date your employer sets, usually in January.
