How HSN codes are structured

HSN codes have up to 8 digits. The first 2 digits are the chapter, 4 digits are the heading, 6 digits are the internationally harmonised subheading and the last 2 digits are India’s tariff item. For example, 8471 is the heading for computers, and 84713010 is a personal computer.
