GST Registration in Delhi

To get GST registration in Delhi, you file Form GST REG-01 on the GST portal with your PAN, business constitution, principal place of business in Delhi and bank details, then complete Aadhaar authentication of the promoters. The application is examined by the Delhi Department of Trade and Taxes or the Central GST authority, who may ask for clarification or verify the premises before issuing a GSTIN. Finaccle's Delhi office prepares the application and handles officer queries on your behalf.

Who needs GST registration

Registration is mandatory once aggregate turnover crosses the threshold for your category (₹40 lakh for most suppliers of goods and ₹20 lakh for service providers in Delhi), and it is compulsory regardless of turnover in specific cases. These include inter-state supply of goods, selling through e-commerce operators that collect tax at source, casual taxable persons, persons liable under reverse charge, and input service distributors.

Many businesses also register voluntarily before reaching the threshold, because B2B customers, government departments and large corporates often deal only with GST-registered vendors who can pass on input tax credit. Voluntary registration brings the full return-filing obligation, so it should be weighed against your expected volume.

Application process and documents

We start by confirming the correct constitution and the place-of-business details, since errors here are the most common reason for queries. Part A of REG-01 generates a temporary reference number after OTP verification; Part B captures promoters, authorised signatory, business activities with HSN or SAC codes, and bank account details.

Documents usually required: PAN of the business, PAN, Aadhaar and photograph of promoters or partners, proof of constitution (incorporation certificate, partnership or LLP deed), proof of the principal place of business such as an electricity bill with a rent agreement or NOC, and a bank statement or cancelled cheque. Where biometric authentication is triggered, the applicant books an appointment at a GST Suvidha Kendra.

Delhi and NCR registration points to get right

GST registration is state-specific. A business with a shop in Karol Bagh and a warehouse in Ghaziabad, or an office in Aerocity and a team in Gurugram, needs a separate GSTIN in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for each state where it has a place of business. Additional places within Delhi can be added to the same Delhi registration.

Delhi applications may be allotted to either the State administration (Department of Trade and Taxes) or the CGST Delhi zone. Traders in commercial markets often operate from premises with informal tenancy, which leads to address-proof rejections; we help you arrange an acceptable owner's NOC and supporting proof before filing rather than after a query is raised.

How Finaccle's Delhi team supports your registration

Our Aerocity team handles the application end to end, and a Chartered Accountant reviews the constitution, HSN or SAC codes and address documents before submission. If the department raises a query in Form REG-03, we draft the reply and help you prepare for any physical verification of the premises.

Because registration is the first step rather than the last, we also explain what follows: invoice format, the return filing calendar, e-way bill requirements for goods movement and how to claim input tax credit. Businesses that want ongoing support can move straight into our GST return filing service without having to brief a new team.

GST Registration in Delhi: FAQs

What is the GST registration threshold in Delhi?

Delhi follows the normal threshold: ₹40 lakh aggregate turnover for businesses exclusively supplying goods and ₹20 lakh for service providers or mixed suppliers. Certain businesses must register irrespective of turnover, such as those making inter-state supplies of goods or selling through e-commerce platforms that collect TCS.

My business operates in Delhi and Noida. Is one GSTIN enough?

No. GST registration is state-wise, and Noida is in Uttar Pradesh. You need one GSTIN for Delhi and a separate one for Uttar Pradesh if you have a place of business there. Branches within Delhi can be added as additional places of business under the Delhi registration.

Will I have to visit a GST Suvidha Kendra in Delhi?

Only if your application is flagged for biometric Aadhaar authentication. In that case, the portal sends an intimation and you book an appointment at a designated GST Suvidha Kendra, carrying the original Aadhaar and PAN along with the documents uploaded. Otherwise, Aadhaar OTP authentication is completed online.

Can I register GST using a rented office in Delhi?

Yes. Upload the rent or lease agreement along with a recent electricity bill or property tax receipt of the premises. If there is no formal agreement, a consent letter or NOC from the owner with their identity proof and an ownership document is generally accepted. Mismatched names and addresses are a frequent cause of queries.
