Advance tax due dates for 2026-27

If your tax for the year after TDS and TCS is ₹10,000 or more, you must pay it in advance: at least 15% by 15 June 2026, 45% by 15 September 2026, 75% by 15 December 2026 and 100% by 15 March 2027. Taxpayers on the presumptive scheme can pay the whole amount by 15 March. Resident senior citizens with no business income do not pay advance tax.

Interest for deferment (earlier section 234C)

If an instalment falls short, interest is charged at 1% a month on the shortfall: three months for each of the June, September and December instalments and one month for March. No interest applies for June if you paid at least 12%, or for September if you paid at least 36%.

Interest for default (earlier section 234B)

If the advance tax paid by 31 March is less than 90% of the tax due, interest is charged at 1% a month on the unpaid tax from 1 April until the month you pay it, with part of a month counted as a full month.

Frequently asked questions

Do salaried employees need to pay advance tax?

Usually not, because the employer deducts TDS. You need to pay advance tax if you have other income, such as interest, rent, capital gains or freelance income, and the tax on it is ₹10,000 or more.

What if I earn capital gains late in the year?

You can pay tax on capital gains and dividends in the remaining instalments after you earn them. No deferment interest is charged on the earlier instalments for that income.

How do I pay advance tax?

Pay online on the income tax e-filing portal through e-Pay Tax, choosing advance tax as the payment type and the correct tax year.
