GST Return Filing in Surat

GST return filing in Surat means reporting your sales in GSTR-1, paying tax and claiming input tax credit through GSTR-3B, and filing annual returns where they apply, all on the GST portal. Before each filing, your purchase register should be reconciled with GSTR-2B so you only claim credit your suppliers have actually reported. Finaccle's Surat team runs this cycle every month or quarter, with CA review before submission.

What GST return filing involves and who needs it

Every regular GST-registered business has to file returns, even for a period with no sales. The core returns are GSTR-1, which lists outward supplies invoice by invoice for B2B sales, and GSTR-3B, which summarises tax liability and input tax credit and is used to pay the tax. Composition taxpayers file CMP-08 quarterly and GSTR-4 annually instead.

Smaller taxpayers can choose the QRMP scheme to file quarterly returns while paying tax monthly. Businesses above the notified turnover limits also have to file the annual return GSTR-9 and the reconciliation statement GSTR-9C. Missed or late returns attract late fees and interest, and they block your buyers' input tax credit.

Our monthly filing process

Each month we collect your sales and purchase data, either from Tally or another accounting system or as invoice files. We check that GSTINs, HSN codes, tax rates and place of supply are correct, then prepare GSTR-1 and share a summary for your approval.

Before GSTR-3B, we reconcile your purchase register with the auto-drafted GSTR-2B to find missing, mismatched or ineligible credits, and give you a list of suppliers to follow up with. We also check e-invoice and e-way bill data against the books where these apply. You then get the tax payable figure and challan details, and we file the return once payment is made. Acknowledgements and working papers are kept for each period.

GST compliance issues common in Surat

Surat's textile chain moves goods from yarn suppliers to weavers, processors, job workers and wholesale traders, often across state borders. That creates recurring GST issues: job-work challans and ITC-04 reporting, credit mismatches when small suppliers file late, and reconciling inter-state sales to agents and transporters.

Diamond and jewellery businesses deal with their own rates, job-work arrangements and export documentation. Chemical and engineering units around Hazira and Sachin GIDC often handle e-invoicing, e-way bills and refund claims on exports. A filing process that checks these Surat-specific patterns every month, not just the headline numbers, cuts down on notices, blocked credits and difficult reconciliations at year end.

Why work with Finaccle's Surat office

Our Surat team fixes a data cut-off date with each client and sends reminders well before the due dates. Each return is prepared by a team member and checked by a Chartered Accountant before it is filed. The work is fully digital, so you can share data through email, cloud folders or remote access to your accounting software.

When the GST department issues a notice, such as a mismatch between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B or an ITC query, we draft the reply from the same working papers. Many clients combine return filing with our bookkeeping service so that the books and GST data agree at source. Call +91 78788 77748 to discuss your filing frequency.

GST Return Filing in Surat: FAQs

Which GST returns does a regular taxpayer in Surat file every month?

A regular taxpayer not under QRMP files GSTR-1 for outward supplies and GSTR-3B for summary tax payment and input tax credit every month. Under QRMP, both returns are filed quarterly while tax is paid monthly through PMT-06. Depending on turnover and activities, annual returns and forms such as ITC-04 for job work may also apply.

Why is my input tax credit in GSTR-3B lower than my purchase register?

Usually because some suppliers have not reported your invoices in their GSTR-1, or reported them with a wrong GSTIN, amount or period. Credit has to be supported by GSTR-2B, so these invoices cannot be claimed until the supplier corrects their filing. Monthly reconciliation catches the gaps early so you can follow up before the claim deadline.

Do I have to file GST returns if I had no sales this month?

Yes. A registered taxpayer has to file a nil GSTR-1 and a nil GSTR-3B for any period with no transactions. Nil returns can often be filed by SMS or through a simplified option on the portal. Skipping them still attracts late fees and can lead to your registration being suspended.

Can you handle GST notices for my Surat business as well?

Yes. We review the notice, compare it with your returns and books, and draft a reply with supporting reconciliations for notices such as ASMT-10 scrutiny, mismatch intimations or show-cause notices. Where a personal hearing is needed, we prepare you for it and attend as your authorised representative where appropriate. Replying on time and backing it with documents is the most important step.
